Job Summary:
The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for strategizing, developing, and executing dynamic communication and marketing content across Martin Luther University College's (Luther) digital and offline platforms. This pivotal role contributes significantly to Luther's mission by effectively conveying its vision and strategic objectives. The incumbent will craft compelling content and collaborate seamlessly to elevate Luther's standing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication
- Devise, research, and produce engaging, strategically aligned content tailored to Luther's audiences and post-secondary education context
- Proactively identify avenues to augment Luther's reputation while harmonizing with its established positioning at local, national, and international levels
- Gauge, assess, and report on communication project outcomes, informing future enhancements and opportunities
- Stay updated on digital media trends and contribute to effective distribution strategies
Web content management
- Maintain and support website and web content strategies with special attention to user experience, accessibility standards, best practices
- Manage the Luther students internal hub, keeping it up-to-date and useful to students
Social Media
- Capture and edit photos and video for social media and the website
- Curate and execute content for Luther's social media calendar
- Monitor social media interactions and integrate emerging trends
Editorial Content and Media Relations
- Actively narrate the stories of Luther's students, staff, alumni, and donors
- Write and edit various news articles about Luther through interviews and press releases
Marketing and Recruitment
- Produce informative print materials (posters, brochures, handbooks, etc.) targeting prospective students to bolster yearly enrollment figures
- Collaborate in crafting paid advertisements to promote Luther's programs, driving annual growth in student enrollment
- Foster relationships with Laurier's recruitment team and attend recruitment events, such as open houses and information sessions
- Develop a social media ambassador program to leverage alumni network and encourage online engagement
Events and Student Engagement
- Assist in the planning, coordination and execution of events
- Collaborate with faculty and student clubs/associations at Luther as a staff representative to deliver impactful programming that enhances the student journey
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- A degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field (required)
Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in relevant work experience in communications and/or marketing
- Experience with photography and videography
- Experience with social media platforms including conversion and retention campaigns
- Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress)
Skills
- A self-starter with a proven work ethic, a track record of meeting tight deadlines and reputation for being highly self-motivated
- Exceptional writing abilities spanning different styles and tones
- High level of proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong project management ability
- Strong storytelling prowess, crafting engaging narratives that captivate and persuade readers
- Adaptability in adopting varying communication styles to embody the brand's voice as needed
- Proven competence in conducting and documenting interviews with subject matter experts
- Basic understanding of HTML/HTML5 and CSS, considered advantageous
- Familiarity with Google Ads and Meta Ads, a beneficial asset
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Manager of Strategic Communications and Marketing and the Principal-Dean
Location: This role is primarily in-person with some remote flexibility.
Salary and Benefits:
- Annual Salary Range: $51,000 - $60,000
