The Opportunity
Reporting to the City Manager, the Manager, Corporate Communications will lead the strategic development, implementation, and ongoing management of internal and external communications and media relations for the City.
The Manager of Corporate Communications provides leadership and supervision to a team of marketing and communication professionals. This position provides communications planning and media relations support and advice. The Division develops, manages, and evaluates marketing and corporate communication strategies, public relations activities, and products. This position is also responsible for the City's corporate branding strategy through the development of tactics, tools and protocols to ensure consistency and quality of communication standards.
Accountabilities

Provide strategic communications advice to senior management and Council, including ensuring City spokespeople are properly trained and prepared for engagement with stakeholders, the media and general public.

Participate as the City's liaison in the development of communications guidelines, standards, and strategies to assist senior management and Council in conducting communication activities.

Oversee the Communications and Marketing team in providing the City with a full range of communication support (writing clear press releases, public service announcements, speeches, and other related material.)

Coordinate responses to media inquiries and develop and maintain positive relationships with the media and outside stakeholders.

Develop and implement departmental communications procedures to effectively coordinate the design and production of print, electronic, and other communication products.

Oversees the management and content creation of the Cities internet and intranet pages

Develop and execute short and long-term communications strategies and materials that align with the City's corporate strategy.
- Create tools, processes, work plans, and reporting mechanisms for tracking projects and measuring progress.

Create employee communications and social media strategies and programs to engage employees in the City's strategic vision, values, and mission.
- Build strong internal relationships across the City.

Manages public relations activities including branding and positioning strategies to promote the City.

QUALIFICATIONS

A university degree obtained from a recognized university in public relations, communications, public/business administration, political science, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of direct progressive experience in the field of public relations, and/or Minimum of 5 years of Supervisory/Management experience.

Must be self-directed, visionary and a broad thinker, utilizing foresight when examining issues and opportunities within the City.
- Strong analytical, communication, and planning skills.

Public sector experience is an asset.

Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.

Knowledge of municipal services would be considered an asset.
Successful performance in this position requires a focus on results, a service mindset with specific expertise and knowledge of current and innovative approaches to communication and marketing. Must have strong interpersonal, organizational, project management and execution skills to ensure successful delivery and implementation of the City's communications.
A combination of education and equivalent experience may be considered.

9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
