Our client plays a vital role in Alberta's Energy Industry by ensuring public safety and the environment - and contributing to responsible, efficient, and safe energy development, has an immediate need for a Senior Technical Writer/Data Engineer. This is a contract position for six (6) months located in Calgary, Alberta.

The Senior Technical Writer/Data Engineer will be responsible for technical writing pertaining to the data management, data lineage tool and data architecture.
Role Accountabilities:

Review and validate all existing documentations for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to industry standards.
- Collaborate with technical teams, project managers, and stakeholders to gather information and insights necessary for documentation accuracy.

Develop accurate and user-friendly training materials, such as user guides and video tutorials, to facilitate smooth onboarding and effective utilization of the data lineage tool.

Regularly update and maintain documentation to reflect changes in configurations, processes, and tools. Keep documentation current and relevant as the project evolves.

Develop SOPs for routine tasks related to data lineage tool management, such as user access control, data source integration, and scheduled maintenance.
- Serve as a technical consultant to provide insights and guidance to project teams and stakeholders regarding data lineage tool implementation, integration, and usage. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges.

Collaborate with the team to produce detailed documentation for the seamless and actionable migration plan that highlights the processes, tools, and timeline to transition to a new data lineage tool (i.e., MS Purview). Address potential challenges and provide mitigation strategies.

Produce well-structured implementation guides for the data lineage tool based on vendor recommendations and industry best practices. These detailed guides should provide step-by-step instructions for optimal configuration setup.

Review and Validate Existing Documentation: Thoroughly review and validate all existing documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with industry standards. Monitor any changes to data source connections by working closely with the data management analyst, including additions or removals, and promptly update the documentation to reflect these changes accurately.

Optimized Implementation Guides: Clear and detailed implementation guides outlining best practices for setting up and configuring the data lineage tool, ensuring efficient utilization.

Migration Plan Documentation: A detailed migration plan that provides a step-by-step roadmap for transitioning from the current data lineage tool to the new solution, including tools, processes, and timelines.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Documented SOPs for routine tasks such as user access control, data source integration, and maintenance procedures to ensure consistency and efficiency.

Training Materials: User-friendly and effective training materials, including user guides and video tutorials, to facilitate effective onboarding and utilization of the data lineage tool.

Technical Consulting: Serve as a technical consultant to provide insights and guidance to project teams and stakeholders regarding data lineage tool implementation, integration, and usage. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration (specializing in information management) or a related discipline.

Completion of courses or certification related to data management, metadata management or data governance can provide a deeper understanding of data concepts relevant to the role.

Strong understanding of data management, data lineage, and related concepts within the context of modern data-driven organizations.

Proficient in translating complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. Ability to create detailed and accurate implementation guides, SOPs, and training materials.

Strong understanding of data lineage tools and their implementation, configuration, and usage. Strong familiarity with industry-standard data management practices.

Capability to provide technical consultation and guidance to project teams and stakeholders, addressing implementation challenges and troubleshooting issues.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experienced in working with diverse data sources and formats including structured and unstructured data.

Strong knowledge in data management principles including data governance, metadata management and data quality to enhance the effectiveness of documentation and consultation.

Experienced in data integration tools and processes, enabling comprehensive documentation of data source integrations and connections.

Basic data analysis skills to comprehend data flows, transformations, and relationships within the data lineage tool.

Basic knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) to automate certain tasks related to documentation and tool management.
