KEEWATIN AIR / TRAUMA FLIGHT / MANITOBA
The successful incumbent will provide care for patients as part of a multidisciplinary team within a critical care setting. The Flight Nurse will work with an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), supplemented with the presence of a Transport Physician either in person or on-line, to provide high quality care and service, which includes rapid response assessment, intervention, and safe transport of critically ill or injured patients (all age categories) including scene response and/or inter-facility transfer. This service is provided twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days per week.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Providing leadership to rural personnel for patients experiencing complex medical conditions
- Triaging of medevac requests/providing direction to the referring facility as required
- Responsible for pre-flight and in-flight stabilization of the patient during all aspects of the medevac
- Liaising with Flight Physician during all phases of the patient transfer
- Works closely with the other members of the crew (pilots), flight followers and other groups also involved in the transfer of patients
- Maintain constant communication with the different groups internally and externally to ensure that medevacs are performed efficiently and effectively
- Within this capacity, the incumbent acts as a representative of Keewatin Air LP/Trauma Flight and reports directly to the Medical Program Manager/Director of Flight Medical and Medical Director
- Documenting all aspects of the aero medical transport in a clear and concise manner
- Maintenance of patient records and ensuring privacy act is strictly adhered to
- Making ethical decisions related to consent and confidentiality
- Ensure on-time performance as it relates to launch times
- Ensure that all equipment checklists are completed as per protocol
- Advocating on behalf of patients
- Will arrive to work on time and ready to work in medevac uniform
- Participation in new hire training and any recurrent training (Maintenance of Competency Programs) as deemed appropriate by the employer
- Incorporate validated changes in medical practice through review of best practice
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
- Possess strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, assessment, screening, diagnostic, pharmacology, and treatment of neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, immunological, toxicology, endocrine, infectious disease and trauma related emergencies and urgencies
- Active/Practicing Member with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification an asset
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Graduate of a recognized nursing program with minimum of 3 years intensive care (ICU) and/or adult emergency experience
- Aeromedical Specialist must successfully complete an aeromedical training course approved by the Minister (CAMATA Level 1)
- Current Child Abuse Registry check
- Current Adult Abuse Registry check
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Able to obtain and maintain Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) and Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA)
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Valid Canadian Passport required
- Enhanced education and experience are considered an asset
- Previous Flight (ACP) experience is considered an asset
- Indigenous Awareness and/or Cultural Diversity training considered an asset
- Proof of immunization status including COVID-19 immunization (and boosters)
Working Conditions:
- There is an expectation that the incumbent will be required to perform their duties on board any Keewatin Air aircraft operating within the province of Manitoba (to include Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing)
- Fulltime: Rotational work 1 week on and 1 week off ( 7 12/hour shifts)
- Casual: Must have the ability to commit to (7) 12-hour shifts (1-week consecutive rotation) within an 8-week time frame as set out by Company
- Ability to lift, load and secure patients, equipment, and baggage
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors; contact with staff and the public; employee must be able to adapt to outdoor weather conditions
