G Visser & Sons is a potato farm and packing operation located in Orwell Cove on beautiful Prince Edward Island. Summary Description
The Electronics, Controls & IT Technician will help support our office, farm, storage and packing operations by bringing a broad knowledge and experience base covering Electronics, Electrical, Controls and IT systems.
Major Tasks Responsibilities
- Electronics & Controls
- Inspect, install, troubleshoot, repair, wire and service all electrical apparatus, devices and circuits of any voltage and related equipment in assigned areas
- Receive instruction diagrams, sketches, work orders, etc. to determine isolation of electrical circuits
- Install electrical wiring, electrical heating units, motor and machinery controls, power and lighting transformers, electrical distribution panels
- Diagnose logic circuits using ladder diagrams and PLC programming devices
- Inspect, test, diagnose, & replace worn out parts and calibrate electrical and electronic equipment to obtain proper operation characteristics
- Clean and lubricate electrical motors, generators, and equipment as required
- Document / report preparation of work until completed
- Returns tools, materials, etc. to proper storage bins. Performs work in conjunction with preventative maintenance program
- When necessary, develop alternatives to sustain production and circumvent temporary malfunctions. Observe all safety rules. Refer to National Electrical Code as necessary
- Participate in project installations
- Works with other repair crews as required
- Assist with inventory of spare parts and ensure accuracy of parts checked out
- Assist with SOP and procedural generation as required
- Ensure first hour efficiency after a changeover is optimal and call backs are minimized
- Install and troubleshoot AC/DC VFD’s, electrical components as needed
- IT
- Maintain and support server (backups, security, data integrity, etc)
- Set-up new PC equipment (computers, wireless access points, network switches, etc)
- Maintain and support all network enabled equipment (security cameras, storage monitoring systems, machines with remote support access, etc)
- Run, terminate, test network cabling
- Help support new software development projects
- Electrical
- Build new extension cords
- Replace cord ends
- Service small job boards
- Replace fixtures, etc
Education/Qualification and Experience
- 3+ years experience as an industrial electrician
- 2 years Tech Degree as asset
- IT education and/ or experience an asset
- Experience with repairing and troubleshooting electrical and pneumatic packaging equipment including: seamers, fillers, and programmable logic controllers an asset
Key Skill/Competencies
- Detail-oriented
- Knowledge of Production equipment and electrical equipment: electrical testing – test lights, meters etc, PLC programmers, gauges, hand and power tools, measuring tools, etc
- Ability to read Schematics
- PLC knowledge a plus
- Motor controls, power distribution, servo motors-controllers, electrical codes and safety knowledge
- Mathematical knowledge associated with electronic circuits
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
