Our client, one of North America's leading energy infrastructure companies with operations in natural gas, oil and power industries throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico has an immediate need for an Indigenous Relations (IR) Regulatory Professional. This is a contract position for four (4) months located in Calgary, Alberta.

We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Indigenous Relations (IR) Regulatory Professional who has knowledge, experience and leadership relating to IR regulatory submissions to shape the strategic direction for projects in alignment with corporate objectives. This individual has the proven skills, competencies and capacity for the timely and accurate preparation of IR-related regulatory deliverables and collaboration with Project Teams so that we can deliver sustainable and responsible business results.
What you’ll do:

Provide technical support to IR Engagement to build and sustain Indigenous support for projects and operations through early and honest communication, mitigating potential impacts, and with mutually beneficial partnerships, in alignment with the Company’s IR Policy and Strategy.

Contribute to the execution of strategies and programs while enhancing corporate reputation and our ability to execute Projects.

Support compliance with best practices related to engagement and TK reporting.

Prepare IR-related contributions for Project regulatory submissions that meet or exceed requirements related to engagement, Traditional Knowledge (TK), and the rights of Indigenous Peoples in support of regulatory approvals and compliance.

Provide guidance, technical review and support in the management of Consultants for IR specific deliverables (including mitigation measures and responses, incorporation of TK, feedback, and issues or concerns, and the assessment of Project effects on Indigenous interests and rights).

Support internal stakeholders, such as IR Engagement and Environment, collaboration with Indigenous groups to develop mitigation measures and address concerns in support of Project development, as required.

Identify, monitor, analyze and escalate emerging issues, risks and opportunities.

Liaise with other project team members, such as Regulatory, Regulatory Legal, Environment, Socio-Economics, Community Relations, Land, Communications, and external contractors to support alignment on approaches, consistency and accuracy of messages and timely completion of deliverables, as required.

Ensure the evidentiary record of engagement with Indigenous groups, representatives and members is maintained and accurate to support regulatory filings and ongoing relationship building.

Maintain an understanding of legislative, regulatory and legal case developments as they relate to emerging issues and trends that could have a material impact to Projects and communicate effectively with leadership.

Identify, propose and implement strategic initiatives and continuous improvement opportunities for IR regulatory strategies.
Qualifications:

Relevant post-secondary education is required, a university bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred

5+ years of experience in Indigenous Relations, Environment, Archaeology, Anthropology, Law, Regulatory, or Government Relations

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Knowledge of and experience with the federal and provincial regulatory processes, requirements and consultation guidelines, particularly as they are related to the energy industry in Canada.

Experience with federal, provincial, and territorial environmental assessment processes, including the integration of, and confidentiality surrounding, Traditional Knowledge from Indigenous groups.

Superior communication skills, both in writing and verbally, with the ability to effectively present to a variety of audiences.

Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong respectful relationships

Ability to be collaborate with a team and work independently to achieve project-driven deliverables

Excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to find creative solutions to complex problems.
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience and business acumen with the midstream energy industry.

Experience engaging with Indigenous groups, representatives or community members to gather Traditional Knowledge, resolve complex issues, and/or implement participation programs (e.g. construction monitoring program).

Direct experience and in-depth knowledge of Indigenous Relations issues and concerns.

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review.

Travel will be required on occasion within Canada as needed by the business
