As a Manager of New Business, you will lead the Prospr New Business and Underwriting team by providing strong leadership and direction regarding business rules and practices and by providing strong admin and underwriting expertise, coaching, training, and relationship management. Reporting to the Director of Health Insurance Operations, we will look to establish the Prospr channel, develop reporting analytics and ensure customer focus to deliver exceptional service and quality standards for our new products.
What will you do?
Provide strong expertise to admin and underwriting teams on large and complex cases including escalations and claims rescissions
Identify, solve and follow up on problems relating to technical underwriting issues, including underwriting methodology and philosophy, processes and systems
Manage workloads and staffing levels on a daily basis to ensure service standards are met as the Prospr team evolves
Accountable for the quality and quantity of work done
Ensure adherence to established operating parameters
Liaise with key business Sponsors to strengthen relationships, especially as we build this new Prospr Channel and revise current processes to meet the niche clientele
Support initiatives developed by the Product and Distribution teams that will assist in meeting growth objectives which are in keeping with our operational philosophy
Ensure all admin associates and underwriters are challenged and engaged in their roles and continue to grow and learn new aspects of new business providing for richer development
Provide exceptional communication, both verbally and in writing, considering the intended audience and anticipates expected reaction to communication messages. Answers questions accurately, demonstrating approach ability and establishing credibility
Participate as the Subject Matter Expert for business projects
Contribute to a positive environment through teamwork, and a spirit of innovation, continuous improvement and professional development
As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only as the position includes managing both French and English-speaking staff (Quebec and outside Quebec) and providing daily support to the team.
What do you need to succeed?
At least 5 years Operational background, solid foundation in managing operational teams (e.g., BWMS)
Ability to multitask, juggle multiple demands and prioritize
At least 5 years experience in Life, Critical Illness and Disability products is an asset
Six Sigma Green Belt is an asset
Minimum 5 years leadership experience, highly developed leadership skills for coaching and training admin and underwriters
Strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking, and time management skills
Excellent communication and relationship skills with ability to influence and negotiate
Service-oriented attitude with strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with our internal and external partners

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
