JOB OVERVIEW
The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is looking for a someone to help grow our social media channels and bring fresh, creative thinking to all the content we create. The social media content specialist will be responsible for creating social media content for the main CCS channels, and occasionally for paid digital channels, promoting our fundraising activities, our programs services, and creating a safe and supportive online community. The content you’ll be creating will help us reach our social media objectives of engaging our community and encouraging learning and interaction within our audience base. You’ll be joining a team of social media experts who are striving to strengthen and grow our channels.
We’re looking for someone who’s a self-starter, who’s eager to grow a passionate community of online supporters across platforms, and who bring a social-first mindset to content creation. You’ll be creating social media assets for our Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), TikTok, and LinkedIn pages, and managing an editorial calendar for the brand’s national presence. You’ll strive to develop innovative ways to tell our story and promote our brand, creating and being featured in video content across our TikTok and Instagram channels. You’ll help with reporting and analysis of our social content, and work closely with our community manager to understand how social listening can best inform the content we’re creating.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Primary Responsibilities:

Develop a monthly social media content calendar that dictates what content we share on Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), TikTok, and LinkedIn. This includes leading monthly editorial planning meetings where you’ll work collaboratively with the team to plan content for the month and brainstorm ideas for visuals, formats and engagement techniques.

Write and edit both compelling and technical content for our social media channels.

Develop visual assets for our social media channels, including video content for TikTok and Instagram (including starring in video content).

Staying up to date with social media trends and platform best practices, and using those trends and best practices to come up with innovative and creative ideas to increase engagement and grow our audience.

Influence and optimize campaign creative for our signature events, including CIBC Run for the Cure, Daffodil Month and Relay For Life. You’ll also support on smaller campaigns as needed.

Be live on site for major events to be featured on social (like Run for the Cure, Relay For Life, etc.), capturing footage in real time and sharing content for our channels.

Work with teams across the organization (like our Cancer Information team, or our Mass Marketing team) to coordinate content creation for a range of topics and goals. You’ll talk to teams across the organization to source imagery, key messages, and information related to social media and blog posts that align with organizational priorities.

Work with our Social Media Marketing Manager to develop monthly, quarterly and annual reporting documents that provide insight on how social media performance is changing, areas of opportunities and best practices for our channels.

Ensure brand consistency and high-quality writing across various digital channels.

Optimize content for paid social media, search engines and lead generation when needed.

Assist with other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

University or college degree with 2-4 years’ experience in a content creation (writing + design) role, or relevant experience

Proven working experience in social media and digital content creation. We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable creating static visual assets, working with photography and video, and creating your own content to support the goals of our social media pages

Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset – you’ll be working with teams across the organization that speak both English and French, so while the ability to translate content isn’t required, it’s a key asset in this position

Experience with planning content across multiple platforms; a robust understanding of social media platforms and their best practices is a must
-
A self-starter – in this role, you’ll be leading the brand’s social media content calendar and contributing to planning the blogs that we share on cancer.ca, so proactivity and creative thinking is a must!

Storytelling and creativity, particularly when it comes to social media content calendar planning

A strong understanding of social media and digital marketing

Deadline-driven multi-tasker with strong attention to detail

Community management experience an asset

Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions

Technical qualifications:

Strong working proficiency in social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X (Twitter), LinkedIn)

Ability to use creative software to help produce digital and social visuals (strong proficiency in Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Illustrator)

Experience with video editing platforms (Premiere Pro, Final Cut)
