JOB OVERVIEW
The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is looking for someone to support and grow the digital content activities of the organization, with a focus on improving our storytelling across digital platforms and channels, enhancing our visibility in search engines, and curating compelling content that helps support our organizational goals.
The Digital Content Specialist will be responsible for developing content for the national website cancer.ca across multiple levels of the organization and supporting regional fundraising campaigns to support fundraising activities, donor engagement and retention, as well as promote the organization’s efforts to inspire donors to fund cancer research through the effective communication of mission delivery. They will also help shape the voice of CCS over digital channels, helping develop processes and protocols around digital engagement at the organization. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across the digital team and the organization to develop innovative ways to tell our story, promote our brand and engage our audience.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Write, edit, and review campaign specific content for digital channels including web, email and social media

Write compelling blog content to engage our audiences in the work that CCS does and analyze its performance providing reporting as needed

Write content to support the promotion of blogs on cancer.ca

Create, curate and update digital content for our cancer.ca website using our content management system, as required

Provide SEO support and subject matter expertise including leading or collaborating with stakeholders on SEO projects, monitoring and analyzing the SEO performance of cancer.ca, making sure content is optimized for keywords

Regularly audit and review content on the website to determine if updates are required

Suggest enhancements to cancer.ca to improve the user experience and engagement

Meet with subject-matter experts for concurrence as to content changes Help with digital copywriting for large national campaigns and smaller campaigns as needed

Work across internal teams to coordinate content creation and distribution to align with organizational priorities

In partnership with the Manager, Digital Content, create and produce resources to support the ongoing management of content creation for the website

Ensure brand consistency, adherence to CCS best practices and high-quality writing across various digital channels

Collaborate with internal teams (marketing, communications and digital) and actively participate in project briefings

Assist with other duties as required

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
-
University or college degree with 2-4 years’ experience in a digital writing role

Experience creating and curating content for online platforms

Storytelling and creativity is a must

Experience working with a content management system. Experience with Sitecore is considered an asset.

Strong understanding of website technology, social and email marketing including UX writing and AODA compliance

Strong understanding and experience with SEO and SEO best practices; experience working with Siteimprove is considered an asset

Proven working experience in social media, digital and email content creation

Deadline-driven multi-tasker with a strong attention to detail

Basic design skills considered an asset

Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions

Must have strong copywriting and editing skills in English (French is an asset)

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to work as a team player and demonstrate personal initiative to complete the work

Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
