Committee (MCC) BC is looking for a community-minded leader who is skilled at engaging with people from diverse
backgrounds to join our team as the Community Development & Peace Coordinator in Prince George, BC.
As the Community Development & Coordinator, you will facilitate activities and build relationships that grow a healthy, safe,
empowered and connected community for residents, engaging the church and broader community in volunteer opportunities
as well as developing partnerships with community organizations. You are someone who possesses a strong understanding of
community development principles that maintain the dignity, value, and worth of residents.
This is a full-time salaried position which requires the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
Program Delivery:
Model and articulate the mission/values of Westwood Church and the Canadian Mennonite Brethren Church’s to the broader community, including community partners and program participants
Actively reach out to all residents, including refugees and newcomers to build relationships, get input, assess needs
and build bridges across cultures as a part of community-building
Support Westwood Church’s church-planting efforts in the apartment buildings
Foster a family- and child-friendly community in which parents/individuals are supported in their efforts to overcome life challenges
Develop and facilitate culturally-appropriate programming in areas such as gender-based violence, which integrates peacebuilding and nonviolent conflict transformation among residents
Link residents to government and non-government services that provide resource and support programs
Regularly schedule community activities to draw in the variety of demographics and cultural/ethnic groups represented on the property
Ensure the Community Resource Center is available for residents and maintain a booking system for its use
Build a strong relationship with Legacy resident managers, working towards solutions for residents where conflict emerges, using a peace-building approach
Recruit volunteers and lead the volunteer team, including prayer walks and times of biblical reflection and vision-building
Build partnerships with other churches and community organizations as opportunities to engage at the Legacy apartments are identified
Develop strong working relationships with community and government agencies operating in the area
Administration and Reporting
Keep appropriate records and data of participants and programs
Produce quarterly reports and participate in Board meeting presentations, as requested
Keep financial records of expenses incurred
Research and apply for community grants and funding to support activities
General
In all aspects of the role the Community Development Coordinator is required to:
Model Christian faith and service through daily interactions with co-workers, partner agencies, volunteers, and the broader community
Be actively involved in Westwood Church and in engaging the church community in the work of community-building
Model nonviolent peacemaking in the workplace and community; assist in resolving conflicts arising in a manner that reflects respect, careful listening and peaceful resolution
